true-sounding lies. (jeremiah 28:1-17)-KJV

Today's morning devotion was on Jeremiah 28: 1-17.

(1) It was about prophet Hananiah that claimed to have received a message from God, that told people of Judah that they'll be free from the hands of Babylon. And all the articles from God's house will be given back to Judah.

"And it came to pass the same year, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, and in the fifth month, that Hananiah the son of Azur the prophet, which was of Gibeon, spake unto me in the house of the LORD, in the presence of the priests and of all the people, saying,Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon.Within two full years will I bring again into this place all the vessels of the LORD's house, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took away from this place, and carried them to Babylon:And I will bring again to this place Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah, with all the captives of Judah, that went into Babylon, saith the LORD: for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon. Then the prophet Jeremiah said unto the prophet Hananiah in the presence of the priests, and in the presence of all the people that stood in the house of the LORD."

(2) Jeremiah do not know if it is a right message from God and he told Hananiah and the people if it is really a messsage from God he'll say Amen to it. If it is not God's message what things spoken by Hananiah will not come true because God is a God of keeping promises and God do not lie.

"Even the prophet Jeremiah said, Amen: the LORD do so: the LORD perform thy words which thou hast prophesied, to bring again the vessels of the LORD's house, and all that is carried away captive, from Babylon into this place.Nevertheless hear thou now this word that I speak in thine ears, and in the ears of all the people; The prophets that have been before me and before thee of old prophesied both against many countries, and against great kingdoms, of war, and of evil, and of pestilence. The prophet which prophesieth of peace, when the word of the prophet shall come to pass, then shall the prophet be known, that the LORD hath truly sent him. Then Hananiah the prophet took the yoke from off the prophet Jeremiah's neck, and brake it.And Hananiah spake in the presence of all the people, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Even so will I break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon from the neck of all nations within the space of two full years. And the prophet Jeremiah went his way".

(3) But God told Jeremiah that He will put a even heavier yoke upon His people. Yoke's of iron with it put upon the people of Judah by the king of Babylon and they'll serve King Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon.

v. 15 " The Lord has not sent thee, but thou makest His people to trust a lie". Jeremiah told Hananiah about it.

"Then the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah the prophet, after that Hananiah the prophet had broken the yoke from off the neck of the prophet Jeremiah, saying,Go and tell Hananiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Thou hast broken the yokes of wood; but thou shalt make for them yokes of iron. For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; I have put a yoke of iron upon the neck of all these nations, that they may serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and they shall serve him: and I have given him the beasts of the field also. Then said the prophet Jeremiah unto Hananiah the prophet, Hear now, Hananiah; The LORD hath not sent thee; but thou makest this people to trust in a lie.

(4) God wipe Hananiah out of the world and Hananiah passed away on the same year.

v.17
"Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will cast thee from off the face of the earth: this year thou shalt die, because thou hast taught rebellion against the LORD.So Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh month".

some notes from my devotion:-

Hananiah sounded a lot like Jeremiah, using the same phrases and the same kind of object lesson. He seemed like a genuine prophet with words that the people wanted so much to believe. How can we tell the genuine to fake?

The authencity of a gem will show up under intense scrunity. God never lies. Therefore if a prophet speaks the true words of God, his prediction will come true (v9). Time will tell. We have God's truth in the bible. Test everything against the scriptures. Don't be mislead into believing what we want to hear. Whatever is not from God will lead to destruction.

I felt very encouraged to share this because i felt that it is very important for us to be caution about things that we read and also listen to might sound similar to the word of God,but when we seek thoroughly through the word of God and pray to ask God, the Lord will help us know that it might not be real.

We're getting nearer to the end times each day. Continually pray for God's leading each day so that it'll not allow false prophets to come and preach the wrong news to us.

Jeremiah 28:9
"But the prophet who prophesies peace will be recognised as one truly sent by the Lord only if his prediction is true".

never preach wrongly as well...we have to be very careful if we're leading people to learn about God's word. We must make sure what we speak of it must be from God. If not certain about the believe you have in mind, never share it out until you are sure that it is the truth. Misleading people cost a lot.
